1995 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo Minichamps - 940069201 (diecast)

Produced from 1994 to early 1998, the 993 generation of the 911 came to substitute the 964. According to Porsche, basically every part of the car, including the engine, was designed from scratch . Only 20% of its parts came from the 964. Tony Hatter was the designer responsible for the external shape of the 993. Though it was clearly based on the previous generation, the 993 had wheel arches more prominent, a smoother front and a different rear bumper design. In 1995 Porsche released the Turbo version, and it came with an all-new air-cooled SOHC twin-turbocharged flat-6. The new engine displaced 3600 cm³ and produced 402 hp. That output was enough to propel the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, and a top speed of 290 km/h.
The 993 Turbo was the first 911 Turbo model that came standard with all-wheel drive. From 993 forward that feature became standard for all Turbo models. All in all Porsche made 5978 units of the 993 Turbo, and the 993 generation was the last of the air-cooled 911. The replacement of the 993 was the controversial (fried eggs) 996.
In 1:43 form I would say that Minichamps (or better, Maxichamps) did an ok job. But being succinct, the model ain’t nothing fancy. Compared to Kyosho’s 930 Turbo or even to Minichamp’s 997 Turbo, this one is a bit lacking. But if you really want a 993 Turbo and are on a budget, this is a nice buy.
