First released to the public in 2008, the GT-R is the evolution of the 2002 (R34) Skyline GT-R. But after the R34, to the dismay of fans, Nissan dropped the Skyline name. However, to the huge Skyline fan base, the GT-R is the “R35”. The engine, called VR38DETT, is a 3799 cm³ twin-turbo aluminum V6 that produces 545 horses and 463 lb-ft of torque. All that power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed twin-clutch gearbox and ATESSA all-wheel-drive system. The car can go from 0-100 km/h (that’s 0-60 mph for those metrically handicapped) in 2.7 seconds (!!). That speed is in league with the Bugatti Veyron. In other words, Nissan evolved the Skyline a lot. As a comparison, the mighty Skyline R32 went from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. And just as important, the GT-R is also comfortable and safe to drive.

GT-R “Black Edition”
A Nissan GT-R “Black Edition” with Tennessee license plates? Hmm, why Tennessee?

Basically what you get with the GT-R is a car with supercar performance but at ¼ of the price. This specific model is the GT-R “Black Edition” version of the car, that comes with 20” wheels, special leather interior and carbon fiber spoiler. Since I’m a HUGE Skyline fan, the GT-R “R35” was a must buy for me. In scale, PremiumX did a pretty good job rendering the car, although I can’t say it’s as good as an Ixo or Minichamps. A pretty decent model, but not great. So yes, I will need another version of this one too…
