Released in early 2018, the new GT3 RS is the flagship of Porsche’s 911 models. Basically, it’s a GT2 RS to drive everyday without the inherent discomforts of (basically) a race car. It’s the most powerful non-turbo 911 road car ever. Powered by a boxer-6, with a displacement of 3996 cm³, it produces 520 hp. However, independent sources confirmed that the engine delivers more power then that. In race trim, it can easily produce over 600 hp. And to keep the cavalry in line, it uses Porsche’s fantastic seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox. With all that power the new GT3 RS goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 312 km/h.
It’s called 991.2 because it’s the last model of the current 991 generation. By the end of 2018 it the 992 will take its place. The model may be the swan song of the 991 generation so of course it had to be fast. At Nürburgring, this particular 991.2 can go round the Nordschleife in just 6:56.4. That is just just 9 seconds slower then the GT2 RS, which is basically a street-legal race car. For a car that can be used as a comfortable grocery-getter, that is fast.
Very possible this is a model for the Porsche fanboy only. And yes, I’m a Porsche fanboy. I got it to make a pair with my GT2 RS, and in 1:43 it’s just as gorgeous. You can’t see from the photos, but seat belts are cloth!
And like my GT2, it’s also a limited edition of 500. I honestly don’t buy pieces just for their rarity, but this is one that will probably become HTF. So if you fancy the last 991 GT3 RS, don’t take too long to go after one.
