The Racers Group (TRG) is a California based racing team founded in 1995 and has mainly been associated with Porsche, though they have raced GM GTOs in the past and lately they have developed an association with Aston Martin (racing the Vantage GT3). The team is the only privateer racing team other than McLaren to win at La Sarthe on their first race, in 2002 also with a 911 GT3-RS. For 2004 their selected weapon was the 911 (996) GT3-RSR. Powerful and reliable, it was a car ubiquitous at racing tracks all over Europe and North America.

RSR #81
Fantastic livery.

Yeah, another GT3-RSR. No, I haven’t had enough of them yet, fried eggs and all. Come on, a very nice livery on a class winning car? Hard for me to disapprove. In terms of detail, this #81 is your average Porsche racer from Minichamps, with a pretty good bang-for-the-buck. The livery is very well applied and overall shape is pretty good.

Look at the rear wheel arches. Hmm…

And to make things even better, I found this RSR #81 on the cheap, so it was impossible to pass up on. But, when I made this shot it occurred to me: who got the car wrong, Ebbro with the #77 2004 or Minichamps with the 2004 RSR #81 and 2005 #71? Look at the rear wheel arches. Although they’re the same 996, without a doubt, they’re not the same in scale. So either the real RSR #77 had extra-wide wheel arches (front and back) or Ebbro got it wrong. From the pics I found, I think it’s the latter.
